Life Coaching Podcast

For the longest time, we’ve been taught that in order to succeed, you must put yourself out there. Make connections. Be the person people would remember. Show up and showcase your skills and be confident.

While all these are true and necessary, for the people who fear visibility, it’s easier said than done. To know how to get over the fear of visibility, it is best to uncover why you have this fear. And from there, you can explore different ways to overcome fear. And we have some sound advice for you to start with.

There’s always going to be something that scares you

The more you remind yourself of this, the easier it will get. Fact is, there will always be something that’ll scare you. We’re humans, of course we get scared. For instance, you’re scared about becoming a coach, and then you realize you’re scared of getting a coaching certification and putting yourself out there. You are not alone in this, and this is not the only fear you’ll have in life. And one thing to keep in mind is, if something scares the sh*t out of you, chances are it will lead you to something greater.

Understand how you want to show up in the world

By gaining a deeper understanding of how you want to show up in the world, it will slowly help you ease the fear of being visible. Sometimes, this fear stems from the not knowing. The uncertainty and not being sure how we want to show up. If you’re working on your coaching certification, how do you want to show up as a coach? What are the values that you want to highlight? Knowing how to show up in the world can go a long way.

It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be honest.

Perfection - sometimes, it eats us alive. The thing about perfectionism is that it is so easy to fall into it and not notice it. Perfectionism is the main enemy of creativity and too much of it can be toxic. That said, keep reminding yourself that whatever you do, it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be honest. It has to be true to you and you believe in it 100%.

Don't make it about you

Another solution on how to get over the fear of visibility is to not make it about you. Because it isn't! Keep in mind that you’re getting a coaching certification to become a coach. You’re learning tips to overcome fear to be able to show up for your clients and be the best coach you can be. This is all about your clients. This is all about making an impact in their lives. This is all about your skills and using them well. It is not about you.

Focus on what you’re truly good at

Positive psychology focuses in on strengths for a reason! If you want to know how to be visible, it’s best to focus on what you’re truly good at.

The internet tells us we should be on all social media platforms and that we should have a newsletter and a glamorous, user-friendly website, blah blah blah, the list goes on. What gets lost is that we lose focus on what we’re actually good at. The things we’re strongly passionate about and things we really excel in. Reconnect yourself to these things and slowly, being visible won't be so scary anymore because you're coming from a place of strength.

Know yourself and work with yourself

One of the best keys to how to get over the fear of visibility is to get to know yourself. And then, to work with yourself instead of against yourself. Say you have a fear of becoming a coach and putting yourself out there -- it's time for some powerful questions!

Why do you fear this? How is this fear affecting you? Why are you scared to be more visible? By understanding yourself and working with yourself, you can slowly get over the fear of visibility.
