But first, let's take a listen to what Lumia graduates have to say about the program in their own words.

‍About The Program ‍

Lumia offers science backed, evidence-based life coach training that is firmly rooted in positive psychology. Our program is entirely online and lasts roughly 6-9 months, depending on which track you select. Everyone begins with Essentials and then students who desire ICF credentialing will continue through Signature.

This includes live weekly coach training, exposure to a wide variety of methods and techniques, business development and so much more.

Lumia is more than a life coach training program, it’s a life changing experience. We say this because we’ve seen it time and time again and we can’t wait for you to experience it for yourself.

According to a recent survey, Lumia alumni have experienced some powerful results from life coach training, including:

  • 93% are now better listeners, fostering deeper connections with others.
  • 84% have increased self-awareness, empowering personal growth.
  • 73% report an enhanced capacity to collaborate with diverse individuals.

‍Community

Lumia is more than a coach training program – we’re a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community of coaches who are committed to bettering ourselves and the world.

Over the last decade, we’ve trained students from all walks of life. From attorneys and human resource professionals to physical trainers and stay-at-home parents, the perspectives you’ll find in a Lumia classroom are a microcosm of the human experience.

Our world-class instructors represent over 25 academic disciplines, with skills that translate across education, law, nonprofit, technology, consumer goods, and corporate sectors. You’ll find like-minded people here, along with the opportunity to build relationships with others who share your values and aspirations.

‍The Education Experience

Lumia students are interested in smashing the status quo, changing the world for the better, and making a bigger impact in their communities. Since you care about helping others and your own impact on the world, you’re in good company!

Lumia students are also people just like you - busy with work and family, dynamic, and driven to succeed.

Our online learning environment is designed with those realities in mind. It’s bite-sized and actionable, so you can achieve your coaching certification in record time… without burning out.

You’ll move through the program with a cohort of your peers, which usually ranges in size from 20 to 30 students. Along the way, you’ll have many opportunities to build one-on-one relationships with peers and instructors. Each cohort is broken down into smaller practice groups that typically include other students in your time zone.

‍In The Classroom

Each week, you’ll engage in a live, interactive, discussion-based curriculum. Classes take place on Zoom and are 2 hours in length with a midpoint break.

Before each class, you’ll have some pre-work to help prepare you for the topic. This may include reading an article, watching a video, completing an exercise, or bringing reflections to class.

Upcoming start dates with details about class times can be found here:

  • Signature - 35-week program that includes advanced training
  • Essentials - 20-week coach certification program
  • Expedited Track - Lumia’s streamlined 10-week certification program

‍Homework

Homework in the program is done at your own pace and you can go as in-depth or quickly as you choose.

We offer a variety of formats to support different types of learners. In the online student portal, you’ll have the opportunity to review the class outline and text, the class slide deck, and other related resources.

Each class will have an assignment that includes short answer questions for reinforced learning in addition to reflection questions and bonus resources. These can be completed using your materials from class. This is all for your learning - students are not graded on the content. However, the completion of these assignments is required for graduation.

Workbook assignments are:

  • Reflective and showcase your own learnings
  • Based in practical application
  • Done at your own pace – You’ll just need to complete and submit your homework assignments within the six months after your last class in order to earn your coaching certificate

What’s Your ‍Time Commitment for Coach Training?

Essentials program: 3-5 hours a week

  • Pre-work
  • Class time
  • Homework
  • Practice coaching

Signature program: 5-7 hours

  • Pre-work, including recorded content to review before class
  • Class time
  • Homework
  • Practice coaching
  • Mentoring

‍Practice Coaching

A core component of coach training is the process of putting your new skills to use. Both the Essentials and Signature programs include practice coaching.

Peer sessions provide you with a test kitchen environment where you get to try on the theories and frameworks that you’re learning in class.

Peer coaching benefits:

  • Safe and supportive environment to practice what you are learning with fellow students
  • Build confidence
  • Uncover areas you want to improve upon
  • Receive verbal feedback and client testimonials from your peers
  • Your peer coaching hours count toward ICF credentialing requirements

In addition to developing your skills, these sessions are also a place for you to receive coaching!

As you swap sessions, you’re invited to bring real world issues to the table. That helps your coaching partner build their skills, and also offers you support in an area you are currently working on in your life.

Practice Coaching Requirements:

  • Essentials Track = 19 Peer Coaching Sessions + 6 External Client Sessions (25 total)
  • Signature Track = 25 additional Coaching Hours  (Signature students accumulate 50 total coaching hours, which count toward the ICF credentialing requirement)

Observation and Feedback

In the Signature program, you’ll receive feedback from professional, ICF credentialed coaches and your own mentor as you continue to refine your skills.

Here’s what that looks like in action:

Live Observation

Signature classes include 1 hour live class lecture, and 1 hour live observation coaching or exercises with specific skill markers to practice.

  • During class, you’ll receive real-time feedback from the classmate who served as your client, fellow classmates who were observing the session, and an ICF-credentialed instructor
  • Each person in the cohort will get to experience this as the coach

Recorded Observation

Signature students will receive written feedback from an observation coach on four recorded coaching sessions.

In-House Performance Evaluation

For Signature students, this is your last step before submitting your ICF application for an ACC or PCC credential.

  • Students submit their final evaluation to Lumia for completion of their ICF Level 2 Certificate
  • This evaluation is included in the Signature program tuition

Mentorship

If you plan to pursue credentialing with the ICF, you’ll need to complete 10 hours of coaching with a qualified mentor coach.

In the Signature program, these hours are included as part of your tuition. You’ll receive 7 hours of ICF group mentoring plus 3 one-on-one mentor coaching sessions.

Group mentoring includes:

  • 10 or fewer people in each group
  • Mentoring from an ICF credentialed coach

In your mentoring sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to get your questions answered, work case studies, engage in coaching practice opportunities, and discuss the nuances of weekly class topics. You'll also receive guidance to help prepare you to apply for your ICF credential.
